SA College of Arts and Science Hosts Intensive Five-Day VFX Training Programme for Visual Communication Students

The Department of Visual Communication at SA College of Arts and Science successfully conducted a comprehensive five-day Value Added Course on Visual Effects (VFX). Held from 8–12 December 2025, the programme was designed to provide students with in-depth exposure to the rapidly evolving VFX industry, blending theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on learning experiences.

Day 1 commenced with an industry-oriented introduction, during which the invited expert presented his showreel and explained key concepts such as VFX, special effects, 2D/3D animation, and CGI. A screening of Kung Fu Panda allowed students to observe animation principles closely, followed by an advanced session that covered the complete animation pipeline—from previz and techviz to post-viz and script-to-screen development.

Day 2 explored the post-production pipeline and essential 3D fundamentals. Students were introduced to the DI process, final output preparation, and core VFX tasks including rotoscoping, paint, prep, matchmove, and keying. The day concluded with an overview of major 3D software and their industry applications, demonstrating how raw footage is transformed into polished visual content.

Day 3 highlighted illusion craft and design principles. The first session covered industry-standard VFX software and practical use cases. This was followed by a detailed module on Adobe tools, connecting graphic design and motion graphics workflows. The final session featured select scenes from Enthiran 2.0, giving students insight into the processes behind large-scale Indian VFX productions.

Day 4 focused on compositing techniques and emerging AI-driven workflows. Students were trained in tracking, matchmove, rotomation, keying, and multipass compositing. A special session on the making of 2.0 offered valuable exposure to on-set supervision, shot planning, and technical execution. The day ended with a discussion on AI-based video generation and its increasing influence on modern filmmaking.

Day 5 centred on practical training. Students first learned the theory of greenscreen production, followed by a hands-on greenscreen shoot and compositing practice. The concluding interactive forum enabled students to seek personalised guidance on career paths, software skills, and industry expectations.

The programme received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants. Many students personally shared their appreciation, stating that the sessions provided clarity, confidence, and deeper insight into the future of VFX and digital media.

SA College of Arts and Science sincerely acknowledges the contributions of all expert resource persons for enriching the learning experience and empowering the next generation of media professionals.
