The Department of Psychology, S.A. College of Arts & Science, through its forum WABI-SABI, successfully organized a field visit to the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University on 19th December 2025.
The visit provided students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure and experiential learning beyond the classroom setting, thereby enriching their academic understanding through real-world observation.
During the visit, students were introduced to the significance of physical education and sports in promoting mental health and overall well-being. The interactions and guided observations helped students understand the interrelationship between physical activity and psychological functioning, including emotional regulation, motivation, concentration, and mental resilience.
Special emphasis was given to the concepts of sports psychology and sports sociology, where students learned about the practical application of psychological principles in enhancing athletic performance. Students gained insights into techniques such as goal-setting, mental imagery, confidence-building, performance anxiety management, and adherence to exercise routines for mental fitness. The role of sports psychologists in supporting athletes’ psychological preparation, recovery, and sustained performance was also highlighted.
The visit further exposed students to various academic departments, training facilities, and laboratories, enabling them to understand the interdisciplinary and holistic approach adopted in sports education.
Overall, the field visit was informative and engaging, helping students bridge theoretical knowledge with practical experience and fostering a comprehensive understanding of health, psychology, and performance enhancement.
