Department of Psychology hosted a Guest Lecture on 29.08.2025

September 1, 2025

The Department of Psychology hosted a Guest Lecture on “Counseling skills – understanding the Micro and macro perspectives “ at the SACAS Auditorium on (29/08/2025) from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The lecture emphasized counselling as a bridge between personal well-being and social change. It explored micro skills like empathy, listening, and therapeutic presence, as well as macro skills that influence communities, educational practices, and gender equality.
Key academic insights covered:
● Classical theories: Psychoanalysis, Behaviour & Cognitive Therapy, Humanistic & Existential Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy.
● Contemporary theories: Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
● Psychological foundations such as levels of consciousness, defense mechanisms, and the idea of tabula rasa .
Interactive activities encouraged participants to reflect on emotions by writing down experiences of anger or sadness, thereby applying theoretical concepts in a self-reflective manner. The lecture highlighted how counselling equips individuals with both practical coping skills and a societal outlook that advances mental health awareness, educational development, and gender inclusivity.
Both sessions by the Department of Psychology and the Wabi-Sabi Forum offered a blend of leadership, knowledge, and self-development, leaving students inspired and empowered.
