The Dignity foundation, Chennai Chapter in association with The department of Psychology, organised the event on “Dance for Memory” A Classical tribute to dementia awareness & Elder’s day celebration on 25/10/2025 at 9.00 am in auditorium of S.A.College of arts and science.The event was started with the dignity anthem followed by thamizh thaai vazhthu, and lighting of kuthu vilakku, and welcome address was given by special guests madam principal Dr. Malathi Selavakkumar. and Chief Guest Dr. A.V. Anoop, Chairman & Managing director, AVA Group of companies who addressed the gathering and followed by Dr.Lakshmi who spoke about the raise awareness about Dementia, promote intergenerational bonding, and Dance performances that touch the heart Awareness session on dementia and its impact interactive activities to engage and inspire. A chance to connect with our seniors and show them love and respect. This special event honours the wisdom, resilience, and joy of our senior community — reminding us that every movement, every smile, and every memory matter.
Dance is more than an art — it’s an expression of connection, emotion, and remembrance. Through rhythm and movement, we celebrate the stories of our elders and shine a light on the importance of understanding and supporting those living with dementia. “Dance for Memory” is a unique event that combines dance, music, to raise awareness about Dementia and celebrate the wisdom and experiences of our elders. Dementia is not a normal part of aging; it’s a disease that affects memory, thinking, and behaviour. Early detection and diagnosis can improve treatment outcomes and quality of life. Physical activity, social engagement, and mental stimulation can help prevent or slow down cognitive decline.
