The Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), in partnership with the SACAS Association of Accounting & Finance Professionals,  held “Pioneers & Professionals – Alumni Insights: Session 3” on Friday, 14th August 2025 in TF 23.

The talk was given by  alumnus Mr. Nirmalesh who presented an inspirational account of his personal journey from classroom scholar to a successful career in the corporate media world. His experiences informed the characters of his talk, and as someone who has transitioned from classroom learning to the workplace, he provided many useful tips on how students can work towards achieving their career goals.

In addition to mentioning many useful skills for career advancement as adaptability, continuous learning, networking and professional ethics in relation to themselves, Mr. Nirmalesh shared some useful tips on how to prepare for interviews, expectations for the probation period, and how students can use internships to plan for long term career progression.

The session was both informative and interactive, and students were encouraged to raise questions on career opportunities available in the marketplace, industry expectations on those entering their first job, and ways they could plan for personal growth and decision making. Mr. Nirmalesh was very transparent in his responses, and shared real-life examples to engage students about the topics covered.

Outcome:The session proved to be both motivational and informative, leaving the participants with renewed enthusiasm and clearer perspectives on their future career paths.
