Department of BCom CA Organizing two-day Workshop on Tools for Analysis & Business Interpretation on 03.10.2024 and 04.10.2024

October 7, 2024

A two-day workshop called “Tools for Analysis & Business Interpretation” was led by Dr. S. Xavier, who is an Assistant Professor and the Head of the Statistics Department at Loyola College in Chennai. This happened on October 3rd and 4th, 2024.

Purpose of the Workshop

The main goal of the workshop was to give students the important tools they need to do statistical analysis and understand business data. The workshop focused on building a strong base in descriptive and inferential statistics and also gave students practical experience using SPSS software, which is commonly used for data analysis.

Highlights of workshop

During the workshop, Dr. Xavier taught the students basic statistical ideas and how they can be used in real business situations. The main topics covered were:

Descriptive Statistics: Simple measures like mean, median, mode, variance, and standard deviation, focusing on how to understand these in business data.

Inferential Statistics: Covered ideas like hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and regression analysis, giving students the skills to predict and draw conclusions from data.

SPSS Software: A big part of the workshop was about using SPSS for practical tasks. Students learned to enter data, run statistical tests, and understand the results.

Dr. Xavier included practical exercises throughout the workshop, allowing students to use SPSS with their theoretical knowledge. These exercises helped students better understand and feel confident using the software for statistical analysis.

The attendees really enjoyed the workshop and thought it was very useful and interesting. Many said that learning how to use SPSS in a hands-on way was very important and would help them in their studies and jobs. The simple explanations of statistics and the practical exercises made the topic easier to understand and more fun for the students.

The workshop effectively taught students important skills in analyzing data and understanding business information. It gave them a good starting point for using these skills in their future studies and work.
