Our one-day International Conference, on the theme of Wabi-Sabi: "Embracing Imperfections Beautifully," brought together experts to explore the beauty found within imperfections. From psychometrics to relationship dynamics and brain profiling, we delved deep into the complexities of human behavior. This International Conference provided a platform for scholars, practitioners, and students to explore the profound implications of Wabi-Sabi philosophy in the realm of psychology, emphasizing the beauty found within imperfections.


A Value-Added Course from February 26th to March 6th

The Department of Psychology  organised a  Value-Added Course from February 26th to March 6th, aimed at augmenting the educational experience of psychology students. Under the guidance of industry professionals Ms. Srividhya and Ms. Megala from Transcend Services, students underwent a rigorous 30-hour program focusing on counselling skills through activity-based learning methodologies.

S.A. College of Arts & Science Hosts a Special Lecture for World Mental Health Day on 12.10.2023
In recognition of World Mental Health Day, the Department of Psychology of S.A. College of Arts & Science organized a special lecture on Mental Health Awareness. The event, held on October 12, 2023, featured two eminent resource persons who addressed the pressing challenges related to mental health. Dr. Anuja Venkatesh, Assistant Professor at the Madras School of Social Work, was one of the distinguished speakers of the event. Dr. Venkatesh highlighted the importance of making conscious decisions to protect one's mental health while engaging with social media. She emphasized that when not used mindfully, social media can steal precious time and contribute to mental health challenges. Another resource person Mr. Kumaran Rajan, a Clinical Psychologist at the Institute of Mental Health, shared insights on the rights of individuals living with mental illness. He emphasized the importance of respecting the rights and dignity of people with mental health conditions and the need for society to provide them with the support and understanding they deserve.
The event received strong support from the Correspondent Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director Dr. V. Sayi Sathyavathi and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakumar.

The Department of Psychology organized a human chain stretching from Sudharsanam Vidyashram to the SAEC gate, symbolizing unity and the power of a peaceful community with the inspiring theme, “Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals,” on 20.09.2023 Students spread love, compassion, and positive vibes because together, we made the world a more peaceful place.


A mime on suicide prevention with the theme “Creating Hope Through Action” on 15.09.2023

The Department of Psychology organized A mime on suicide prevention with the theme "Creating Hope Through Action" on 15.09.2023 at the SACAS Lobby between 11:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. This event brought attention to the prevention of suicide, emphasizing the need for immediate action and fostering hope within the community. The event contributed significantly to the well-being of the students by promoting a compassionate, informed, and proactive approach to mental health issues. Overall, this event played a vital role in raising awareness about suicide prevention and enhancing the well-being of the community.


The Department of Psychology has actively participated in a collaborative effort with Lets Reinforce on ‘Livelihood enhancement’

The Department of Psychology of S.A. College of Arts & Science has actively participated in a collaborative effort with Lets Reinforce, a non-governmental organization focused on 'Livelihood enhancement', to promote and sell their products within the campus community. The main aim of this initiative is to enhance the livelihood of roadside vendors to boost their income generation. Pikki mikki is an initiative of the non-profit organization that helps procure the products. Students from the Department of Psychology actively participated in this inititaive.

The collaboration between the Department of Psychology and NGO Let’s Reinforce exemplifies our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. By providing a platform for the sale of NGO products, we have contributed to their fundraising efforts while raising awareness about their mission. This initiative stands as a testament to the positive impact that can be achieved through strategic collaborations between academic institutions and social organizations.

Today 11/08/2023, The department of Psychology has organized Fresher's for the 1st year students to promote students' interactions and communications and it helps to make them get out of their shell. This event was planned and conducted by 2nd and 3rd year students with the guidance of head of the department Mrs. Jayalakshmi and the professors Mr. praveen kumar and Ms. Keerthana. Students conducted the program in a very good manner. Games and dance and singing was conducted to show their own talents and skills. This will promote the well being among students.

 


Workshop on the Mental Health of Adolescents on 25.07.2023

The Department of Psychology organised a Workshop on the Mental Health of Adolescents on 25.07.2023. This workshop gave an insight and awareness on how the mental health of adolescents have an impact on the ethnic and societal issues. Mrs. Revathi Ramkumar, “Project Director of Women Empowerment Prevention of Sexual Violence Gender Sensitization” Let’s Reinforce and Mr. N. Seyed Mubarak Abbas, “Secretary of Karunai Ullanagal Trust” were the resource persons.

The workshop had two sessions:

  1. First Session: Mrs Revathi Ramkumar spoke on the topic “Journey of Adolescence and Its Impact.”

  2. Second Session: Mr N. Syed Mubarak Abbas spoke on the topic “Importance of Social Responsibility – My Parents – My Responsibility.”

Outcomes of the Event:

The main aim of the event was to create awareness among youth about the rising societal problems and the need for social responsibility among the youth for a better society. The response of the students is the major outcome of the event. The students were ready to volunteer themselves in helping to create a better society along with the resource persons.
