On August 22, 2023, S. A. College of Arts & Science took the 348th Madras Day celebration to new heights by orchestrating a breathtaking human formation. Students came together in a magnificent display of unity and creativity. Under the guidance of dedicated faculty members, the students formed intricate patterns on the college ground, by forming Happy Madras Day. This unique and artistic tribute showcased the college's commitment to celebrating the city's heritage. The programme was organised by the Rotaract Club of SACAS, Department of English, Computer Science & Applications. Mr. M. Vignesh Kumar, faculty coordinator of Rotaract Club of SACAS coordinated the formation. This innovative gesture highlighted the vibrant spirit of S. A. College of Arts & Science in honoring its beloved city on this special day.


An expert talk on Recent Trends in Artificial Intelligence on  16.08.2023

The Department of Computer Science & Applications of S. A. College of Arts & Science organized an expert talk on Recent Trends in Artificial Intelligence on 16th August 2023. The Resource Person for this session was Dr. Swarna Ravindra Babu, Founder & CEO, Coovum Smart Systems and Services Private Ltd, Chennai.
The programme started with the welcome address delivered by Mr. P. Chandrasekar, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Applications. Ms. Riya Tiwari from II BCA introduced the Resource Person to the gathering. Around 160 students were participated in this session.
Dr. Swarna Ravindra Babu eloborated on Artificial Intelligence covering different aspects such as Industry Revolutions, Digital Transformation, Project Understanding, Market Trends, Potential in Future and etc.
He has given an overview about Deep Learning and Learning Mechanisms in Machine Learning Algorithms especially about Supervised Learning. The evolution of IT (Information Technology), OT (Operation Technology) and IoT (Internet of Things) has been explained. He also explained about Big Data, Natural Language Processing (NLP) etc., with examples. Further he interacted with the students about programming languages such as Python and VS Code, hands-on projects and industry aspects.
The event was followed by a question and answer session. Finally, Akilan from II B.Sc. CS delivered the vote of thanks. Master of Ceremony was done by Henry Anthony from II BCA.

Mphasis Campus Connect program held on 11.08.2023 at 9:30 am in SACAS Preview theatre.

He has contributed significantly to the industry and academia through research, publications, and real-world projects.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN ARMED FORCES

The Department of Computer Science & Applications celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26.07.2023. It organised an expert talk on the topic ‘Job Opportunities in Armed Forces’. The session was between 10.00 a.m. and 12. 00 p.m at the Preview Theatre. 

Mr.K R Srikanth(Retd.),Wing Commander, Head of Operations, Centre for Aerospace Research, was the resource person of the session. He gave a clear picture on the job opportunities in Armed Forces. 

To name a few

  1. Indian Army: The Indian Army is the land-based branch and the largest component of the armed forces. Job opportunities in the Army include positions for officers and soldiers in various arms and services, such as Infantry, Artillery, Engineers, Signals, Medical Corps, and more. The recruitment process includes written examinations, physical tests, and interviews.
  2. Indian Navy: The Indian Navy is responsible for safeguarding the nation's maritime interests. Job opportunities in the Navy include officer roles for candidates who have completed their 10+2 education or graduated from engineering, as well as sailor roles for those with a 10th or 12th pass qualification. The Navy conducts its recruitment through written exams, physical fitness tests, and medical examinations.
  3. Indian Air Force: The Indian Air Force is responsible for aerial warfare and the defence of the skies. Job opportunities in the Air Force include the flying branch (pilots), the technical branch (engineers), and the ground duty branch (administration, logistics, accounts, etc.). The Air Force selects candidates through written exams, interviews, and medical tests.

He explained the eligibility criteria for joining the armed forces. It was an informative and eye opening session for the students and faculty members.

Five Days FDP on “CLOUD PRACTITIONER”

The Skill Elevation Club of the Department of Computer Science & Applications of S.A College of Arts & Science organized a 5 days FDP on “CLOUD PRACTITIONER” in association with ICT Academy from 19-06-2023 to 23-06-2023.

Mrs.Chitra, an experienced AWS-certified professional was invited as a resource person to deliver lectures, conduct hands-on exercises, and provide guidance during the FDP.

The Faculty Development Programme on AWS Cloud Practitioner was organized with the objective of equipping faculty members with the knowledge and skills required to teach and mentor students in the field of cloud computing using Amazon Web Services (AWS). The programme aimed to provide an overview of the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam, familiarize faculty with AWS services and concepts, and enable them to effectively incorporate cloud computing into their curriculum.

The FDP curriculum encompassed the following key areas:

  • Introduction to AWS Cloud Computing
  • AWS Global Infrastructure and Service Models
  • AWS Core Services: Compute, Storage, and Database
  • Networking and Security in AWS
  • AWS Management and Monitoring Tools
  • AWS Security Best Practices
  • AWS Cost Optimization and Billing
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification Overview
  • Hands-on Labs and Practical Exercises

To provide practical exposure, hands-on labs were conducted where faculty members got the opportunity to work on the AWS console, create and manage AWS resources, and perform tasks related to compute, storage, and networking. The resource persons provided step-by-step guidance and addressed queries during the lab sessions.

To assess the participants' progress and prepare them for the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam, practice tests were conducted at regular intervals. These tests evaluated their understanding of AWS concepts, services, and best practices.

The FDP helped participants develop a strong foundation in cloud computing and AWS services. They gained in-depth knowledge of core AWS services, infrastructure, security, and cost optimization techniques.
