College of Arts & Science, in association with the Computer Society of India - Student Branch, organized IDEATHON'25, an inter-collegiate project presentation, to celebrate National Science Day. The event featured Mr. Vasanth R., Program Manager at Assurecare Healthtech LLP, as the Chief Guest.
Focusing on upskilling, reskilling, and lifelong learning, Mr. Vasanth emphasized the importance of adapting to technological advancements in fields like AI, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. He urged students to engage in real-world projects, internships, and industry collaborations. Department of Computer Science GUEST LECTURE ON IoT AND ITS APPLICATIONS on 27.02.2025
A guest lecture on “IoT and Its Applications” was organized on 27th February 2025 at SACAS Auditorium. The session was conducted by Mr. B. Abdul Azhar, an AI/ML Engineer from TechKnots Academy LLP. The objective of the lecture was to introduce students to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its real-world applications.
Mr. Azhar began the session by explaining IoT, its significance, and how it connects devices through the internet to automate processes and improve efficiency. He highlighted how IoT is transforming industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities.
He then discussed the difference between a controller and a processor, emphasizing that controllers are dedicated to executing specific tasks efficiently, while processors handle more complex computations required for multitasking.
The role of sensors in IoT was another key topic. He explained various types of sensors, such as temperature, motion, and humidity sensors, and how they help in data collection for IoT applications.
Moving forward, Mr. Azhar introduced students to types of microcontrollers, including popular ones like ATmega328 (used in Arduino) and ESP8266 (used in IoT applications). He also discussed the different types of Arduino boards used in IoT, such as Arduino Uno, Mega, and Nano, highlighting their functionalities.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion on building IoT projects using personal ideas and everyday problems. Mr. Azhar encouraged students to identify real-world challenges and develop innovative IoT-based solutions.

SACAS Auditorium hosted an insightful guest lecture on Full Stack Development, presented by Mr. Vinayagam Mahalingam, Principal Software Developer at Hewlett Packard Enterprises. The session attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty, and industry professionals, all eager to deepen their understanding of modern web development practices.
- React and Node.js:
- Mr. Mahalingam provided an in-depth exploration of React, emphasizing its component-based architecture and the advantages it offers in building dynamic user interfaces. He highlighted how React's declarative approach simplifies the development process and enhances application performance.
- Transitioning to the server side, he discussed Node.js, detailing its event-driven, non-blocking I/O model. He explained how Node.js enables developers to use JavaScript for both client and server-side scripting, promoting efficiency and consistency across the application stack.
- Real-Time Demonstrations:
- To bridge theory and practice, Mr. Mahalingam conducted live coding sessions. He demonstrated the creation of a simple web application, showcasing the seamless integration between React and Node.js. Attendees observed firsthand the process of setting up a Node.js server, creating React components, and establishing communication between the client and server.
- Single Page Applications (SPAs):
- The lecture delved into the concept of SPAs, where Mr. Mahalingam explained how SPAs load a single HTML page and dynamically update content as the user interacts with the app. He discussed the benefits of SPAs, such as improved performance and a more fluid user experience, and how React facilitates the development of SPAs through its efficient rendering mechanisms.

A Guest Lecture on "Generative AI" was organized by the Department of Computer Applications, S.A. College of Arts & Science to introduce the students about the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence. The lecture aimed to provide the students with a foundational understanding of Generative AI models, their applications, and their future potential in various industries.
The Resource person for the session was Mr.K.Gowtham, Project Engineer, Pantech Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd. Around 250 students of BCA and B.Sc. Computer Science students attended the programme and gained insights from it.

SACAS Hosts National Workshop on AI Advancements On July 27, 2024, S.A. College of Arts & Science, Department of Computer Science and Department of Computer Applications organized a significant national workshop titled "Unlocking the Power of AI (Exploring ChatGPT, Prompt Engineering & Co-Pilot)". The event featured Mr. Sathish Raja, System Software Engineer at HP Inc., Bangalore, and Mr. Balachandar K, Senior Software Engineer at Lionbridge Technologies, Chennai, as key speakers. Mr. Sathish Raja's session commenced with an exploration of Machine Learning, followed by insights into AI fundamentals, Gen AI, and the practical application of Prompt Engineering through a live demonstration. Subsequently, Mr. Balachandar K engaged participants with topics on UI/UX design, Front End Basics, and Co-Pilot, culminating in a live project demonstration and hands-on session. The workshop attracted a total of 127 participants, including 47 onsite and 80 online attendees from various colleges nationwide. It provided a comprehensive platform for learning and skill development in cutting-edge AI technologies, fostering collaboration and knowledge dissemination among aspiring technologists and industry professionals alike.

The Skill Elevation Club of the Department of Computer Applications of S.A College of Arts & Science organized an expert Lecture on Ethical Hacking at the college auditorium on 09-07-2024.
The Resource Person for the Expert lecture was Mr. Santosh Chaluvadi, CEO, Supraja Technologies. He, being an expert in cyber security and ethical hacking, delivered an enlightening session aimed at broadening students' understanding of cybersecurity and the role of ethical hacking in today's digital landscape. The expert lecture started with the welcome note from Mr.P.Chandrasekar , Head, Department of Computer Science and Applications followed by the speaker’s session.. The Speaker discussed the critical need for ethical hackers in protecting organizations from cyber threats. He highlighted real-world examples where ethical hacking has helped prevent cyber-attacks and data breaches. Finally he provided insights into career paths in ethical hacking and cybersecurity and shared information on certifications and skills required to pursue a career in this field. He encouraged students to consider ethical hacking as a career option and provided guidance on how to get started.
