MATHELETS CLUB of S.A. College of Arts & Science conducted an Interdepartmental Math Quiz Event, "The MathWiz Showdown" from 27th Jan 2023 (Friday) to 31st March 2023 (Friday). The top-performing students will be recognized and the department with the most scores will be awarded the title ‘THE MATH WIZARDS’.

Detailed Report of the Programme:

The inauguration of Mathelets Club & Guest lecture was conducted on the auspicious day that is Srinivasa Ramanujan Day and National Mathematics Day. The inauguration started with a prayer song by the students. Lamp Lighting was given by Dr. S. Lavanya, the Chief Guest followed by Dr. S. Prathap, Dr. Peninal Dhanamani, Mrs. Radha, and Dr. Prabhakar. 

The Welcome Address was given by Dr. S. Prathap, HoD of the Mathematics Department, and introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. S Lavanya, she is working as an Assistant Professor at Bharathi Women's College, Chennai. She started her career at D.G.Vaishnav college, and later she worked at Periyar Govt. Arts College, Cuddalore. Currently, she is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Bharathi Women's College, Chennai. Her areas of interest mainly include ‘Graph Theory, Fuzzy Graph Theory, and Fuzzy Optimization. She was conferred on Ph. D from, Sri Chandra Sekharandra Saraswathi Viswa Maha Vidyalaya University (Central University), Kancheepuram in 2011. She has published more than 57 recent papers in National and International Journals. She guided Ph.D 9 students and M. Phil 6 students.  Notably, she was invited to a significant number of Guest lectures on several occasions.

The Chief Guest unveiled the Logo of the Mathelets Club and pinned the insignia to the office bearers. The office bearers took an oath by repeating the pledge which was delivered by Mrs. Radha, Assistant Professor.

The Chief Guest spoke on the topic Everything Around Us is Mathematics.

Dr. S. Peninal Dhanamani delivered the Vote of Thanks.

 And the inauguration ended peacefully with the National Anthem.

MAT-STAT QUIZ SHOW

It is our immense pleasure to conduct the “Mat- Stat quiz” show program on behalf of the SACAS Department of Mathematics on 28 10 2022 between 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Preview Theatre.

The goal of this program is to create a thirst for Mathematics in the minds of the students which may help them to develop mathematical attitudes, analytical skills, and critical thinking for the right decision-making.

40 students had registered for the program. Out of the 40 students, 20 teams were created consisting of two members in each team and 2 teams for each department. The quiz started with the preliminary round and ends with the final round. Out of 20 teams, five teams were finalized for the final round which enabled us to finalize the prize winners.

It was a great privilege for the Department of Mathematics to have the gracious presence of our correspondent and our director and our beloved principal to distribute the prizes to the winners. We thank our principal for giving us the right guidance to conduct the quiz. We thank our director for her great support. From the depth of our hearts we offer our gratitude to our correspondent to conduct innovative programs like "Mat-Stat quiz show".

One and all we thank the almighty for enabling us to accomplish the quiz show a great success.
