A wellness program on “Road Safety Awareness” organized by the Department of Commerce (A&F)

Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), SACAS Association of Accounting & Finance Professionals along with SACAS'ians Fin. Tech Club in association with Inner Wheel Club of Coral, S.A.COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE, Poonamallee-Avadi Main Road, Thiruverkadu, Chennai 600 077, conducted a *Wellness Program* on *"Road Safety Awareness"* at 11:30 a.m. in SACAS Theatre.

*Tr. Ramachandran, Assistant Commissioner, Tr. Chandira Mouli, Inspector of Police & Tr. Udhayakumar, Sub Inspector,* addressed the students regarding the traffic rules and regulations. They urged the students not to drive while using mobile phone or without license. He also emphasised on wearing helmets and not to consume any alcoholic drinks while driving.


Awareness session on *”Psychological Well Being -The Male Perspective”*

Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), SACAS Association of Accounting & Finance Professionals along with SACAS'ians Fin. Tech Club in association with Inner Wheel Club Coral, S.A.COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE, Poonamallee-Avadi Main Road, Thiruverkadu, Chennai 600 077, conducted an *Awareness Session* on *"Psychological Well Being -The Male Perspective"* at 12:30 p.m. in SACAS Theatre.

*Dr. Srinivasan MD General Medicine, Murugan Hospital,* the chief guest, addressed the students regarding the distractions that they face in their everyday life. He spoke about the topics that many refuse to speak about which was really unique and the students appreciated it. He spoke about mobile addiction, smoking and drinking addiction, misunderstandings and myths about menstruation and finally a bit about sex education and myths and doubts in masturbation.


*Wellness Awareness Session* on *”Crime Against Women”

Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) along with SACAS Clubs, S.A.COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE, Poonamallee-Avadi Main Road, Thiruverkadu, Chennai 600 077, conducted a *Wellness Awareness Session* on *"Crime Against Women"* on 04th August 2023 @ 11.00 a.m. in the SACAS Campus. The live case study has explained by a well-experienced professional of *Ms. P.Deepika "Investigative Unit for Crime Against Women", Sub Inspector of Police, Avadi Police Commissionerate, Chennai.*


“Industrial Visit” for final year students on 02nd August 2023

Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and SACAS Association of Accounting & Finance Professionals along with SACAS'ians Fin. Tech Club, S.A.COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE, Poonamallee - Avadi Main Road, Thiruverkadu, Chennai 600 077, organized an *Industrial Visit* for final year students on 02nd August 2023 @ 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. in *OCF - Ordnance Clothing Factory, Avadi. A Government Organisation under Ministry of
Defence.*


FRESHER’S PARTY by Department of Commerce A&F

Every student eagerly awaits right from their time of admission for their most remarkable event of the department “FRESHER’S PARTY”. The Department of Accounting & Finance organised a Freshers day on 28th of July 2023 and it was a memorable day in the life of every fresher of A&F students. The fresher’s day was filled with excitement, joy, music, enthusiasm, laughter and happiness.


‘Indirect Taxation and GST- An Overview,’ on 24-07-2023 by B.Com (A &F)

The Fintech Club of SA College of Arts & Science organised a session on ‘Indirect Taxation and GST- An Overview,’ on 24th July 2023, from 10:00 a.m to 12:15 p.m. The session was hosted by Ms. Shipali Choudhary and Ms. Kavya G of III B.Com. Accounting and Finance. The session was graced by the presence of the guest, Mr. S. Rajagopalan, a retired IRS Officer. The session started with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by the welcome address by Ms. Preethi of the III B.Com. A&F. An introduction of the chief guest was given by Ms. S. Harini of II B.Com. A&F. The Chief Guest was felicitated by Dr. G. Purushothaman, the HoD of the Department of Accounting and Finance. The session was then handed over to Mr. Rajagopalan.

The chief guest gave a talk on ‘Indirect Taxation and GST’ by giving a brief explanation about tax, its importance and the different types of taxes that are present in India. He stressed on Article 265 which states that ‘Taxes can be levied and collected in India only by the authority of law.’ He covered the concepts of taxes in modern times, difference between direct and indirect taxes, difference between tax and cess and also told us about the various taxes that are prevailing in India. He ventured the concept of GST. He covered the scope and coverage of GST, some major definitions like ‘Goods [Sec 366 (12)]’, ‘Services [Sec 366 (26A)]’, and ‘Supply [Sec 7(1)].  He explained about the GST council, the weightage in decision making regarding the taxes and how these taxes are being managed in a State and a Central level.                     He concluded his session by briefing about E-way bills, ITC and finally with the benefits of GST. The students were able to gather a lot of information through his speech and PPT. The students aired their questions and the Chief Guest answered them all in a simple and clear manner. 

The session came to an end with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. Nageswari of III B.Com. A&F. The programme ended with the National Anthem.


‘Direct Taxation At A Glance’ on 24-07-2023 by B.Com(A & F)

The Fintech Club of S. A. College of Arts & Science organised a session ‘Direct Taxation At A Glance’ on 24th July 2023, from 9:00 a.m to 10 a.m. The session was hosted by Ms. Harsha Rajeev and Mr. Nijanthan of the II of B.Com. Accounting and Finance. The session was graced by the presence of our Resource Person, Mr. M. Veerabhagu, an Income Tax Officer. The session started with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by the lamp lighting ceremony. The lamp was lit by our Chief Guest Mr. Veerabhagu, followed by our HoD and our faculty members. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Mokesh of the II B.Com. A&F. Our Chief Guest was facilitated by the HoD of the A&F department. The chief guest was then introduced by Ms. Sreemathi of II B.Com. A&F. The stage was then handed over to the Chief Guest.

Mr. Veerabhagu started his speech by tracing the history of taxation in India. He explained the advent of Income Tax in 1860 and about the Income Tax Act of 1961. He explained briefly about the basic of charge, and levy of the Income Tax which is covered under Sec 4 of the act. He further explained the concept of gross, net and total income and also the aspects avoidance and tax evasion. He winded up the session by explaining some basic definitions like - person, Income and receipts. The students were indeed held captive as he shared many real time information in a very clear manner. The session then came to an end with the Vote of Thanks, Ms. Barani of II B.Com. A&F. 


“World Population Day” on 19.07.2023

The Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) in association with SACAS Clubs Celebrated the “World Population Day” on 19th July 2023 and formed a Human Chain between 07:45 a.m. and 08:45 a.m. from the Sudharsanam Vidyaashram School to S.A. Engineering College Gate. Students created awareness on the “Effects of Over Population” on the environment by forming the human chain. The idea of human chain was suggested by the Correspondent Thiru. P.Venkatesh Raja, planned by Dr. Sayi Satyavathi
the Director and Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar the Principal. It was executed by Dr. G. Purushothaman HoD of B.Com. (A&F).Mr. R. Rangasamy Sub-Inspector of Police (Traffic), Poonamallee, Mr. Selvam Head Constable Poonamallee & Mr. Hari Babu TPTWO extended
their support for the human chain formation. Around 185 students involved formed the Human Chain by holding placards with creative slogans and insisted the importance of over population. The students made around 100 posters and charts with drawings. The public and school students were enquired about the drawings and gained information about the effects of over population in India. The general public came to know the facts of population in India. The students participated in this event with full zeal and enthusiasm. Such
programmes are organized for the students to bring out their latent talents.


Awareness programme on fire safety and Precautions on 19.07.2023

The Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) in association with SACAS Clubs conducted an awareness programme on fire safety andprecautions i n t h e c o l l e g e l o b b y from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on 19th July 2023. The Officers from Tambaram Fire Station & Poonamallee Fire Station trained the students and created awareness among students. Mr. Sidharth, an officer explained the types of fire accidents and steps to be followed to put off the fire. To name a few: Fire due to gas leakage, Fire due to electricity wires & Building fire etc. The students of Accounting & Finance department actively participated in the demo conducted by the officers. The police department also joined the programme and educated all the students regarding fire safety. The students gained knowledge on fire accidents and the ways to put them off.

Mrs *Jaganavi Premkumar* Freelance Soft skills Trainer, Speaker of the day inspired students with her captivating thoughts for focusing the future and own stories.
